SAPIExcellence

SAPIExcellence is an initiative promoted by Sapienza University to attract the best and most promising researchers, encouraging them to participate in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) and ERC programmes.

SAPIExcellence aims to provideconcrete incentives, in addition to scientific ones, for excellent researchers who submit proposals in the framework of MSCA-IF and ERC indicating Sapienza as the Host Institution. The purpose is to increase the number and quality of submitted proposals, as well as the chance to obtain fellowships and grants funded by the EU Commission.

Moreover, SAPIExcellence intends to provide continuity and further support to research projects already financed under the MSCA Individual Fellowships (IF) and Innovative Training Networks (ITN) programmes and to the Career Development Plans of researchers who receive the fellowships.

In order to pursue the above-mentioned objectives, Sapienza has recently launched two specific initiatives for MSCA:

1.    Seal of SAPIExcellence -4 fellowships amounting to €50,000 each, for a total of €200,000 per year, to be granted to Sapienza proposals submitted under the MSCA-IF-2017 call that have been awarded the "Seal of Excellence" by the evaluation Panel.  The €50,000 fellowship will allow a €40,000 employment contract for each researcher and €10,000 to cover expenses directly related to the research activities (i.e., purchase of laboratory equipment, consumables, travel expenses, etc.).

2.    Add SAPIExcellence - 2 annual fellowships amounting to €50,000 each, for a total of €100,000 per year, to extend the duration of 2 MSCA IF or ITN projects that have already been funded by the Commission by 12 months. The €50,000 fellowship will allow a €40,000 employment contract for each researcher and €10,000 to cover expenses directly related to the research activities (i.e., purchase of laboratory equipment, consumables, travel expenses, etc.).

The calls to submit applications, providing more information on deadlines and the terms of participation and selection, will be published in September.

Moreover, by the end of 2018, Sapienza plans to launch an additional action within the SAPIExcellence programme, the BE-FOR-ERC Initiative. BE-FOR-ERCwill grant 4 annual fellowships amounting to €50,000 each, for a total of €200,000 per year. The grant is meant to attract excellent researchers who commit to submit a project proposal under the ERC programme with Sapienza as a host institution.
