A Study on Hyperbaric Risk Prevention

On Thursday, May 10 a new research project on the prevention of professional illnesses for workers operating in hyperbaric environments will kick off at Lake Bracciano, where a field laboratory will be installed to collect the results of analyses conducted on individuals simulating submarine working activities. The researchers will measure and monitor the alterations caused permanence under conditions of strong pressure, as happens under water.

The research project, which is financed by INAIL - the Italian National Accident Insurance for Workers, aims to study individual phenomena, such as diet and physical efficiency, that affect individual physiological responses to activities under high pressure and implement strategies that will reduce the incidence of these risks for specialised workers through different diets and life styles.

Professor Luigi Fattorini from the Sapienza Department of Physiology and Pharmacology coordinates the study with the participation of the Department of Experimental Medicine, the Research Unit on Food Science and Human Nutrition and in collaboration with the University of Tor Vergata Department of Biology and ENEA.
