Sapienza Humanities Rank First

It is the first time that an Italian university ranks first in the QS International Rankings, coming before many renowned English and American universities. Sapienza University has been ranked first by QS in the "Classics & Ancient History" sector in the new rankings by subject published on February 28, 2018.

“This is an excellent result for the entire university community. The honour received by our classics and humanities area, one of the best at our university,” explains Rector Eugenio Gaudio. “In this field, education often merges with special cultural opportunities. Thanks to Project Theatron, students revive ancient Greek and Latin texts, translate them and adapt them for theatrical performances. At Sapienza, students can study statues and decorative friezes at the Museum of Classical Arts. They participate in internships with prestigious agencies and organisations and work hands-on in archaeological missions. This is an open and holistic education that reinforces their bond with their historical and cultural roots. Indeed, they learn about the founding values of our society.”

Indeed, Sapienza University improved its performance in all 5 QS macro-areas:

  • Arts & Humanities: 75th place (climbing 28 positions over 2017)
  • Engineering & Technology: 100th place (+23 positions)
  • Life Sciences & Medicine: 138th place (+23 positions)
  • Natural Sciences: 50th place (+14 positions)
  • Social Sciences & Management: 156th place (+28 positions)

Sapienza also performed well in various other subjects. It is amongst the first 10 universities worldwide in Archaeology (9th) and amongst the top 50 in Library Management (33rd) and Physics (39th). Moreover, it ranks in the Top 100 in History, Languages, Philosophy, Theology, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Anatomy, Pharmacy, Mathematics, Anthropology, and Law.
