Inauguration of the 2017-18 Academic Year

On Thursday, January 18, Sapienza University will inaugurate the 2017-18 academic year, the 715th since the foundation of the university. The ceremony will be opened by Sapienza Rector Eugenio Gaudio; Marta Zingale, an Archaeology Masters Programme student as student representative, and Antonella Cammisa, Director of the Research and Technology Transfer Support Area, on behalf of technical and administrative personnel.

Guest speakers include Yvon Berland, President of Aix Marseille Université, will address the “Mediterranean Transnational Campus,” while Physics Noble Prize Winner Rainer Weiss will hold a lecture on “Gravitational Wave Detection: the Long Way of a Success." Pier Carlo Padoan, Italian Minister of Economy and Finance will hold the opening lecture on “Italy and Europe: New Challenges and New Opportunities.”

MuSa will provide musical entertainment with the performance of the Gaudeamus igitur (MuSa Classica, MuSa Jazz and MuSa Choir, directed by Maestro Silverio Cortesi and Choir Masters Paolo Camiz and Giorgio Monari) of the Enigma Variations - Nimrod by Edward Elgar and Music for the Royal Fireworks - Ouverture by Georg Friedrich Händel (MuSa Classica).

 

Entrance will be permitted until 11:30 am.
