Harvard and Sapienza: Medical Research Alliance

Sapienza University and the Brigham and Women's Hospital, the Harvard University General Hospital, have undersigned a framework agreement for cooperation in the fields of research, education and assistance in the medical area. Sapienza Rector Eugenio Gaudio and Harvard President Elizabeth G. Nabel signed the agreement on December 1, 2017 at the American University in Boston.

"The international community is facing new challenges to guarantee the right to health and the psychophysical wellness of the largest possible number of people,” explained Rector Gaudio. “These challenges require university mobility to expand the common space in which ideas grow and develop. And this is the objective of our agreement with the Brigham and Women's Hospital, a state of the art facility not only for its practical excellence, but also for its commitment to challenge inequality via its many global programmes on health".

The European Institute for Network Medicine, developed by BWH but organised according to Italian legislation or other international rules shared by the two parties, will manage the resources set aside by the agreement. The objectives of the 10-year agreement include: mobility of staff, students and graduates, joint research projects, exchange of documentation and scientific information and publications, and support and assistance to scholars on mission.
