TRANSNATIONAL JOURNEYS IN EUROPEAN WOMEN’S FILMMAKING

09-01-2018
January 11, 2018 – 4:30 pm
“Mauro Wolf” Lecture Hall
Via Salaria 113-117

On January 11, Wellesley College Professor Flavia Laviosa will hold a lecture entitled “Transnational Journeys in European Women’s Filmmaking,” on female movie directors who have been awarded international cinematographic awards.

The lecture will focus on the production of artists whose narrations intertwine with peculiar national and post-national contexts and are influenced by private stories, public incidents and historical events that deserve greater attention. Analysed from the viewpoint of feminist theory and through a comparative transnational outlook, the selected movies explore the poetics of female (in)visibility.

The lecture will be followed by a panel with Professor Veronica Pravadelli from the University of Roma Tre, Professor Silvia Leonzi from the Sapienza CORIS Department and movie director Susanna Nicchiarelli.

The meeting is organised by the CORIS "Gender and Media Matters" Research Unit, coordinated by Professors Milly Buonanno and Franca Faccioli.
