On Friday, October 21, Italian President Sergio Mattarella presented a Gold Medal “for Public Health Merits” to Sapienza Rector Eugenio Gaudio.
The award was presented with the following motivation: “Sapienza Rector Eugenio Gaudio, a tenured Professor of Human and Clinical Anatomy, is a leading Italian scientist (top-30) who has conducted fundamental research on liver and biliary cells, including hepatic stem cells. Most recently, Rector Gaudio has focused his research on the study of the mechanisms that regulate the proliferation and mortality of biliary tree cholangiocytes and the localization and activation of progenitor/stem cells in the liver.”
The gold medal was presented to the Rector by Health Minister Beatrice Lorenzin at a ceremony held in the “Biagio d’Alba” Hall of the Italian Ministry of Health.
The award is conferred by the President of the Italian Republic upon the proposal of the Health Minister and the opinion of a Central Evaluation Committee.
